How much should you drink for the maximum protective effect?

A number of studies have shown that the maximum protective effect is obtained with one to four drinks a day. With such an intake, heart and circulatory diseases occur less frequently, and the risk can even be reduced by as much as 50%. In addition, mortality as a result of these conditions is also reduced.

Despite this favourable effect, alcoholic drinks are not recommended for health reasons. If it could be certain that the use of alcohol would not lead to abuse, then the drinking of small quantities could indeed be advised to prevent heart and circulatory disease. The risk of drinking more than the recommended quantity is very real for some people, however, and a high alcohol intake is coupled with health risks. It is indeed so that people who drink alcohol moderately, should not be dissuaded from this habit for health reasons.
