29/08/2008 BEER AND SLEEP
Question: Beer contains hops, which has sedative properties. Do hops in beer influence sleep?Guillaume Answer: A glass of beer before going to bed may induce sleep in many cases. This effect is partially to be ascribed to the action of the hops in addition to that of the alcohol. However, seems to produce the biggest effect and, in excessive drinking, disturbs the function of the brain that controls the deep sleep phase. With excessive beer consumption you will usually fall asleep quickly, but you will wake up earlier. But that probably has nothing to do with the presence of the hop. | ![]() |
